Trump: Deepseek Rise Signal a Wake-Up Call for U.S Firms

The growing popularity of the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) application DeepSeek has caught Donald Trump’s attention, who recently urged American tech companies to focus on AI competition.

Donald Trump: DeepSeek’s Rise – a Wake-up Call for US Tech Firms

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the sudden rise of China’s artificial intelligence application DeepSeek “should sound the alarm for American technology companies” and said it is a good thing that Chinese companies have developed cheaper and more efficient artificial intelligence models. Trump believes that the low-cost model is a “very positive development” for the artificial intelligence industry as a whole.

Donald Trump said he still expects U.S. tech companies to dominate the field of artificial intelligence, but he acknowledged the challenge posed by DeepSeek, a low-cost AI assistant that surged to No. 1 on the Apple App Store over the weekend.

“The release of DeepSeek artificial intelligence by a Chinese company should be a wake-up call for our industry and we need to focus on competition,” Trump said.

DeepSeek has become the talk of Silicon Valley, especially after the release of  two advanced models, DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1, offering performance comparable to OpenAI at a fraction of the cost.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also applauded DeepSeek R1, saying, “DeepSeek’s R1 is an impressive model, especially since they are able to provide excellent performance at such a price. We will obviously launch better models, and at the same time, it is really exciting to have a new competitor ! We will release some new content.”

Emphasizing on his research roap, Altman also added that the world is going to need a lot of AI and will be amazed by the next generation of models.
